The Situation: Extensive mould growth in a bedroom

A residential client in London discovered a significant mould outbreak within a bedroom. The infestation was not only an aesthetic concern but posed an immediate risk to the health and safety of the occupants. Complicating the situation, much of the mould was situated in a hard-to-access area behind the wallpaper, necessitating an urgent professional intervention to prevent airborne spore migration.

The Challenge: Localised mould infestation

The primary challenge of this project was the location of the infestation. A significant portion of the mould was situated in a hard-to-access area behind the wallpaper. This required a delicate balance of aggressive remediation and careful containment to ensure that once the wallpaper was stripped, the newly exposed spores did not migrate to other areas of the home.

Furthermore, the project was time-sensitive; the client was concerned about the immediate health implications, meaning our team had to mobilise and execute the remediation with extreme urgency.

The Solution: Rapid four stage remediation

Ideal Response was engaged to provide an immediate mould remediation solution. Our technicians arrived on-site fully equipped with specialist PPE, including white overalls and respiratory protection, to adhere to strict RAMS protocols regarding dampness and spore control.

Our 4-stage remediation process

  1. HEPA Vacuuming: Initial removal of surface spores using High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filtration to ensure no cross-contamination occurred.
  2. Access & Strip: The affected wallpaper was carefully removed to reveal the hidden mould growth behind the substrate.
  3. Antimicrobial Treatment: Application of professional-grade chemicals using specialist rags to treat the affected areas at the source.
  4. ULV Fogging: To finish, the room was treated with Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) fogging. This dispersed a fine biocidal mist that neutralises airborne spores, ensuring the environment was returned to a safe, “as-clean-as-new” state.

The Result

The project was completed within a single day, successfully eradicating the mould and preventing the occupants from suffering ill health. The client was incredibly happy with the speed and thoroughness of the work, noting that the urgent nature of the request was met with total professionalism.
